Set up Copilot

UsagePool reads your own gh executable. The tool needs to be installed and already authenticated on this Mac.

Prerequisites

  • macOS 13 Ventura or newer, on Apple silicon or Intel.
  • GitHub CLI installed and signed in to an account with Copilot access. Confirm with gh auth status before enabling the provider.

What UsagePool does with Copilot →

02 / 03 · Steps

Four steps to a live meter.

Step 1
Enable Copilot on the first-launch provider screen.
Step 2
Setup runs the single fixed read-only request and lists the quotas your account reports.
Step 3
Choose Premium Requests as a menu bar widget. The hover card also shows Chat and Code Completions when your account reports them.
Step 4
Close Settings when the connection is ready. Hover the widget to see the provider card.

Fast local checks identify which services are available before any authenticated tool, credential, subprocess or network request is used, so an unconfigured provider costs nothing.

03 / 03 · When it fails

Honest failure modes.

These are the ones you will actually hit, and what each one means.

Copilot says Not Installed.
Install GitHub CLI, run gh auth login, then refresh the connection in General settings.
Copilot says Sign-In Required.
Your gh credentials are missing or rejected. Run gh auth status, re-authenticate, and choose Refresh.
Copilot connects but no quotas appear.
Quotas marked unlimited or unavailable stay hidden. If an organization policy blocks the endpoint, the provider card reports that distinctly from an exhausted budget.
